Asphalt oxidation unit


Oxidation asphalt is from the heaviest parts of crude oil, it is highly condensate polycyclic compound, it is black amorphous solid and bright at fracture surface. It is largely used in road paving, construction, wood anticorrosion, insulation ect.. The raw materials for oxidation asphalt is vacuum residue or solvent extracted asphalt. Oxidation treatment is to change asphalt structure, thus to increase softening point, penetration, and temperature sensitivity. It is able to produce different grades asphalt as per requirement. If the vacuum residue has high softening point, it can be used as paving asphalt without oxidation treatment.

The primitive oxidation unit is single reactor type, now it is developed to single tower type or multi-tower sequent continuous oxidation process. Feedstock is heated up to 260-280 celsius degree, compressed air is injected and violently mixed with asphalt to make oxidation reaction, The oxidized asphalt produced will be sent to product tanks. And then molded, packaged as final products. The obtained asphalt is construction asphalt mainly. Producing road paving asphalt generally only need slightly oxidation, single tower continuous operation, the vacuum residuum entering temperature is 190-210 celsius degree, due to the raw material difference and required asphalt degree difference, the operation condition is differed.
